Personal Donor Stories

We thank all our planned-gift donors for their generous support. Here are some of their stories.

Thomas F. Stonesifer ’59 and his wife Mary T. Stonesifer

Thomas and Mary Stonesifer together are the owners of the Park Avenue Pharmacy in lovely Chambersburg, Pa, and have chosen to support the University through a planned gift commonly referred to as a Charitable Remainder Trust, which will benefit future generations of USP students. "The many benefits I received from my unparallel education at PCP&S, now USP, have undoubtedly provided the very foundation which has allowed me to realize my professional accomplishments," said Tom Stonesifer. "We decided to utilize a Charitable Remainder Trust to express our appreciation to Tom's college because, with this Trust, we have achieved tax benefits, but more importantly, it was a great way for us to make Tom's dreams come true," added Mary Stonesifer. A Charitable Remainder Trust with USP can, indeed, provide income for the rest of your life, wonderful tax benefits, and truly help make dreams come true.

The William R. Jones ’42 Scholarship Fund

The William R. Jones ’42 Scholarship Fund was established to annually aid a third year USP student majoring in chemistry or a chemistry-related program. "Today's graduates in the sciences play a vital role in the success of the pharmaceutical industry," said Mr. Jones, a former University Trustee and former Division Head at McNeil Laboratories. Bill Jones himself was a strong proponent of hiring employees with non-traditional backgrounds. "Their research and insights will help create many of tomorrow's medications. This scholarship means additional bright, deserving students will receive and outstanding USP education," Mr. Jones added.

USP’s Phi Delta Chi Fraternity – Epsilon Alumni Chapter Gifts Historic Home

The University’s Phi Delta Chi Fraternity – Epsilon Alumni Chapter has generously chosen to provide support to their common alma mater, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, through a gift of real property. The Fraternity’s well-known home, located just around the corner from campus at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and historic Woodland Terrance, was recently sold and the proceeds gifted to USP to establish “The Phi Delta Chi Endowed Scholarship Fund.” Fraternity Treasurer, David Bradstock ’78 stated “What appeared to be a remarkably complicated situation evolved into a wonderfully rewarding, efficient and effective philanthropic experience thanks to the expertise and guidance of USP’s Office of Institutional Advancement.” Indeed, the Fraternity Chapter’s leadership team was so motivated from the gift and resulting scholarship that they have decided to leverage the proceeds of the sale to initiate the Phi Delta Chi Fraternity – Epsilon Alumni Chapter USP Campaign Challenge, with the intent to match the gifted sale amount in perpetual honor of Phi Delta Chi.
